ABOUT SCRF

Recognizing the complexity of medical problems resulting from spinal cord dysfunction (SCD), Paralyzed Veterans of America made a commitment to support research to alleviate, and ultimately end, the medical and functional consequences of paralysis.

To carry out this responsibility, Paralyzed Veterans of America's Board of Directors formally organized its research activities by creating the Technology and Research Foundation in 1975. The following year, the Foundation was legally incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. In the early 1980s, the corporation was renamed PVA Spinal Cord Research Foundation, or SCRF, to reflect its interest and activities more accurately.

While finding a cure for spinal cord dysfunction is paramount, SCRF also supports grants designed to improve the current treatment and care for acute and chronic spinal cord dysfunction, develop innovative rehavilitative therapies and assistive devices for people with paralysis, and train talented researchers to focus on the problem of spinal cord dysfunction.

MISSION

The mission of the PVA Spinal Cord Research Foundation is as follows:

  • Promote research to find better treatments and cures for paralysis.
  • Support efforts to improve the quality of life of individuals with spinal cord dysfunction until treatments are found.
